On December 10th and 11th, 2024, the joint 5th meeting of the LIFE CROLIS project’s Advisory Board and the first meeting and workshop for fine-tuning the CROLIS data concept and model from project activity C1 is being held, with the participation of three experts from Poland, Slovenia, and Germany. The meeting was opened and the attendees were greeted by Mr. Željko Vuković, State Secretary in the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition.

On behalf of Marija Vučković, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Green Transition, Mr. Vukovič , the State Secretary, greeted the representatives of partner institutions, members of the project’s Advisory Board, and foreign guests. Ministry of Environmental Protection and Green Transition is the coordinating ebenficiary of the LIFE CROLIS project.

The State Secretary stated that the LIFE CROLIS project has faced numerous challenges from the beginning, but the establishment of the Croatian Land Information System is necessary to meet the requirements of the new EU legislation in the field of climate policy. The Ministry recognizes the need to establish the CROLIS system and is therefore changing and adapting Croatian legislation in this direction.

The LIFE CROLIS project, in addition to its primary purpose of accurately determining changes in land use for reporting purposes in the LULUCF sector, has much broader benefits for the whole of Croatia. Its demonstrative character has been recognized at the European level by the European Commission and the European Environment Agency.

“As members of the project’s Advisory Board, your scientific and professional contributions, as well as your rich experience in solving this difficult task, are invaluable to us. This meeting is an important step in concluding the scope of the CROLIS data concept and model and fine-tuning the designed system,” said State Secretary Vuković.

He wished the attendees much success in further work on the LIFE CROLIS project, hoping that together we will achieve the project’s goals by the end of 2026.
