LIFE CROLIS Visibility event held in Zagreb
LIFE CROLIS 1. Visibility event was held on October 3rd, 2023. at the National and University Library in Zagreb for representatives of the scientific, professional and other interested public.
The first public presentation of the LIFE CROLIS project began with a speech by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, Ivo Milatić, who emphasized the importance of the CROLIS project in relation to the goal of achieving climate neutrality in the Republic of Croatia and transitioning to an economy with zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050: “Decarbonization , i.e. green transition, among others, is not possible without this part of professional knowledge (op.a.) which needs to be organized. The Ministry will always support…projects that go in the direction of the establishment of advanced databases, because today Croatia could have more ambitious climate goals if it already had such precise data (op.a.)”.
MP Goran Ivanović, representative of the president of the Parliamentary Committee for Agriculture, also addressed the audience, pointing out that the CROLIS project is also important for preserving the biodiversity of the Republic of Croatia: “Climate change is no longer a myth that is being talked about, but a reality that will happen to us and that is already happening, and therefore preparation for the time and challenge ahead is commendable”.
The presentation of CROLIS was magnified by the presence of experts from North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro, experts of similar projects from the European Union, officials of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction and State Property, representatives of the European Commission as well as activists of non-governmental organizations. , university professors and experts from other institutions.
In the second, emphasized professional part of the presentation, presentations were held by experts involved in the implementation of the project from all project partners. Lectures on the progress of CROLIS implementation so far were held by project manager Domagoj Stjepan Krnjak, Vlatka Palčić and Branimir Pavlinec from the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, as well as fellow experts from partner institutions on the project – Nino Malešić from Ekonerg, Mladen Majcen from the Agency for Payments in Agriculture , fisheries and rural development, Tomislav Ciceli from the State Geodetic Administration and Goran Kovač from Hrvatske šume.
All present had the opportunity to renew their knowledge about the sector of land use, land conversion and forestry, but also to learn something new about, for example, the challenges of establishing ARKOD+ (plus) and CROLIS land use layers (LU) for the Republic of Croatia or about the first results of the development of the methodology monitoring of the land cover (LC) of the Republic of Croatia for the year 2020. Among the lecturers was the representative of the thematically close InCoNaDa project, Agata Hościło from the Institute of Geodesy and Cartography from Warsaw.
The LIFE CROLIS project is implemented by the user coordinator, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development in partnership with the State Geodetic Administration, the Agency for Payments in Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, Croatian Forests and Ekonerga. It was co-financed with 2,588,207 EUR of financial support through the LIFE Program of the European Union in relation to the total value of 6,248,735 EUR. The Government of the Republic of Croatia also participates in the co-financing of part of the costs of implementing the LIFE CROLIS project through the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency with funds obtained through emission unit auctions.
